Why You Need 3C In A 3G World

At the risk of being accused of creating unnecessary acronyms in a business environment already asphyxiatingly full of them, this is my plea for you to think about 3C marketing.

No big secret here: I’m talking about Continuous, Coordinated Contact.

What I’m getting at is the importance of reaching out to your organization’s audience in many ways - or even better put, being well represented in all the places your audience might reach out to you — and making sure that there is consistency across all those touch points.

Your prospects (and your competition) will definitely notice if you haven’t planned for that consistency, if there’s a gap in your outreach. More than ever, shoppers are comparing your messages and offerings across multiple channels, and if they find a difference — or don’t find anything at all — you might lose them.

What would happen at your website tomorrow if your organization appeared on television tonight? (more…)

Spilman: Making It Easier To Recruit Attorneys

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009 by Reid Williams

Here’s some of our recent client work from the video department, and if it wasn’t so fun making videos, then this one would have me thinking about going to law school and becoming an attorney.

Spilman, Thomas and Battle is a regional law firm headquartered in Charleston, with over 100 attorneys practicing nearly every specialty of law. Another amazing number: The firm has existed since 1864. We’ve done web work for the firm in the past and they recently brought us on to reinvigorate their recruiting program.

Like all our clients, we’re working to turn Spilman into a publishing machine, attracting new attorneys or prospective clients through the leadership they exhibit in person or in the intellectual content they produce showcasing their innovation and achievements. We’re explaining that the right kind of content and leadership will magnetize the curious when they come looking for you. (more…)

Does Your Website Have A Story?

When it comes to captivating our fellow hairless monkeys, there’s really no substitute for an old-fashioned story. If I can paint a picture that bursts from the beginning and raises the stakes throughout the enthralling middle, you’ll be on the edge of your seat and rooting for the characters when it comes time for the ending.

And I’m not just talking about Stephen King or J.K. Rowling here.

I’m talking about your website. (more…)

Beware Of ‘Gurus’ Bearing ‘Statistics’

Call me crazy, but I’m going to try to convince those of you who don’t yet have a blog established for your company to get one going, and I’m going to do that by shooting holes in the very statistics that could help me persuade you.

Your company should have a blog. Period.

But the reason your organization should have a blog is not because someone introduced as a social media or marketing “guru” shows you “statistics” that say companies with blogs get more traffic on their websites.

That’s because your data supports no such causal inference, Hubspot. Sorry, but I’m about to go on a mathematical tongue-lashing. (more…)

How To Connect Your Business Facebook Page And Twitter Account In 5 Minutes Or Less

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009 by Mariah Hibarger
A new application connects Facebook Page updates to Twitter accounts — and it's a snap.

A new application connects Facebook Page updates to Twitter accounts — and it's a snap.

It might be one small step for social media gurus, but it’s one giant step for the tech-challenged WELD account executive.

What does an English major have to offer a tech-savvy digital ad agency like WELD? Judging by our current employee ratio, with 50% of WELD’s employees holding a Bachelor’s degree in English, I’m thinking I must add some value to this digital, acronym dominated environment (ADE).

“What?” you might be asking. (more…)

Did Skype Spam Disappear In The Ebay Auction?

Here’s a conspiracy theory for you: All the spam that Skype users have been experiencing lately was a clever tactic used by and originating from none other than Skype’s new owners — all to get Ebay to unload Skype at terms much more favorable to the buyers.

Give me another minute or two and I’ll figure out how aliens and/or North Korea are involved.

But seriously, I find it interesting that in the same week Ebay sells off 65% of its stake in the peer-to-peer communication platform, the mountain of spam that’s been burying the WELDers and other users of the service seems to have abated.

Coincidence? Let’s explore. (more…)
