GoPro Cameras: New Toys For The Video Department

Thursday, July 1st, 2010 by Keith Doherty

Work so you can play; play so you can work. It’s been a foundation of our culture here at WELD for quite some time, and with our latest additions to the video department, the lines between work and play are getting blurry. That’s because WELD recently purchased 6 GoPro HD Hero Cams to be used on our productions and after work adventures.

These tiny POV (Point of View) cameras are water and shockproof and come with an extensive mount system that allows us to put them in precarious circumstances and come away with some unique perspectives. So far we have used the cameras with mountain biking, whitewater kayaking and rafting, zip lines, and even a helicopter production.

Top 3 Reasons Digital Marketing Rocks

Thursday, April 1st, 2010 by Mariah Hibarger

Mariah Hibarger - WELD Account Executive

What job allows you to Facebook at work, write blogs, produce videos, study Web analytics, optimize Web sites and get to know lots of incredible people all at once? Working for WELD, I get to do all of that and more! Here are my top three favorite things about working for WELD in this new digital world:

1. Variety - Every day brings with it new challenges. I do get bored easily, so WELD’s fast-paced environment suits me just fine. In adventure activities such as whitewater rafting and downhill mountain biking, you have to react to the rapidly changing environment around you; the same thing is true of my job. Digital marketing is as dynamic and fast paced as any other profession in today’s job market. What I’m doing at any given moment is always related to other processes and factors, and daily and even hourly changes switch things up and keep me on my toes.

SXSW: New Media’s Constant Connectivity Here To Stay

Sunday, March 14th, 2010 by Brandon Holmes

Before heading out to the after-party for the movie premiere of Kick Ass, in downtown Austin, I thought I would jot down some notes about my experience thus far at the SouthBySouthwest interactive conference and film festival.

First of all, I confirmed that I’m neither crazy nor alone. It turns our there are more than 10,000 people here just like me who are incredibly excited to live and work in this new world of constant connectivity. Many of the people who feed my entrepreneurial passion for running a business in new media are here. I won’t name names, you can review the speaker list and sink your teeth into topics in emerging media that are covered at this event.

We take a lot of pictures and shoot a lot of video in all our myriad digital marketing projects for clients. In addition to the campaign work, we try to take photos whenever we can to show:

The Secret Mission Of WELD (And Why You Should Enlist)

Friday, August 28th, 2009 by Reid Williams

I’ve been badgering the guy in the office down the hall to start writing blog posts. If anyone is reading my posts here, I figure, they’ll really get interested in what he has to say.

Mostly because, well, he’s trying to save the world.

Brandon Holmes, B-rad, Brando, @BrandoNRG (if you follow folks on Twitter) - he’s actually the person who convinced me to hop off a globe-trotting lifestyle train and give West Virginia a try.

His undying belief that entrepreneurs can reshape the social and economic fabric of our world for the better probably sold me more than anything. It’s pretty inspiring.

So you know, there are people who will start a business just to teach people to save lives. And there are people whose idea of business development is pursuing non-profit and community clients trying to fix healthcare, or bring jobs to the state, or improve education.

Have you ever met anyone who truly believes that a rising tide floats all boats? (more…)

More and more people are living their workaday lives untethered from any sort of office. They’re called “digital nomads.”

In a recent article in the Washington Post, reporter Michael S. Rosenwald follows these 21st century professionals as they work in hotel lobbies, airports, coffee shops and even poolside.

The quote on the impact of connectivity says it all (my emphasis added):

“Asked where her co-workers were, Moysey said, ‘I don’t know, because it doesn’t matter anymore.’” (more…)
