It’s been a flurry of activity in WELD-world lately, with numerous fascinating video productions, presentations and digital marketing campaign launches. The activity has taken us all over our beautiful Mountain State, not to mention trips to great destinations like Pittsburgh and New York City.

If you’re curious about the corner of the world we’re exploring at any given moment, you can keep up with the WELD photostream on Flickr.

We take a lot of pictures and shoot a lot of video in all our myriad digital marketing projects for clients. In addition to the campaign work, we try to take photos whenever we can to show:

The Secret Mission Of WELD (And Why You Should Enlist)

Friday, August 28th, 2009 by Reid Williams

I’ve been badgering the guy in the office down the hall to start writing blog posts. If anyone is reading my posts here, I figure, they’ll really get interested in what he has to say.

Mostly because, well, he’s trying to save the world.

Brandon Holmes, B-rad, Brando, @BrandoNRG (if you follow folks on Twitter) - he’s actually the person who convinced me to hop off a globe-trotting lifestyle train and give West Virginia a try.

His undying belief that entrepreneurs can reshape the social and economic fabric of our world for the better probably sold me more than anything. It’s pretty inspiring.

So you know, there are people who will start a business just to teach people to save lives. And there are people whose idea of business development is pursuing non-profit and community clients trying to fix healthcare, or bring jobs to the state, or improve education.

Have you ever met anyone who truly believes that a rising tide floats all boats? (more…)

More and more people are living their workaday lives untethered from any sort of office. They’re called “digital nomads.”

In a recent article in the Washington Post, reporter Michael S. Rosenwald follows these 21st century professionals as they work in hotel lobbies, airports, coffee shops and even poolside.

The quote on the impact of connectivity says it all (my emphasis added):

“Asked where her co-workers were, Moysey said, ‘I don’t know, because it doesn’t matter anymore.’” (more…)

Don’t Feel Down Just Because Google Is Down

A recent study conducted by the Chief Happiness Officer provides a clear warning as we all join the Western-style landrush to the cloud: Caution — and deep breathing — should be exercised now that our livelihoods hinge on the web being up and running.

What, you’ve never heard of the Chief Happiness Officer? Then you might not be familiar with “webstress,” either.

Alexander Kjerulf has one of the coolest job titles ever invented. As a consulting CHO, he helps companies figure out how to make their employees happier at work. Pretty cool, right? (more…)

Is There A Better Way To Cool Off?

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009 by Reid Williams

It’s 4 p.m. as we write this, and if the sunny summer afternoon is calling you outside — like it is us — this glimpse of Fourth of July fun should be the last straw in sending you out to play.

We thought we’d throw this video up on the blog and thank our client, ACE Adventure Resort, for making digital marketing work so fun. On Independence Day, the folks at ACE held a fun contest for their swimming guests and handed out gift certificates to some pretty excited kids. The best part was the crowd that gathered and helped the judges out by voting with cheers and applause for their favorite competitors.

Who wants to join us on the Blob?

(We get to do the launching!)

When Work Blurs The Line With Life and Play

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009 by Reid Williams

One goal every person on the WELD team shares is to maintain a healthy balance between work and play.

We’ve each taken the hard road in life, trying to turn what we’re good at and passionate about — the active, outdoor lifestyle, communication and technology — into a successful business.

The WELD team recently wrapped up a web build and content production for a client in economic development — The Woodlands — and it does a good job of reminding us why we chase that dream here in Southern West Virginia.

What comes to mind when you think of West Virginia? (more…)
