GoPro Cameras: New Toys For The Video Department

Thursday, July 1st, 2010 by Keith Doherty

Work so you can play; play so you can work. It’s been a foundation of our culture here at WELD for quite some time, and with our latest additions to the video department, the lines between work and play are getting blurry. That’s because WELD recently purchased 6 GoPro HD Hero Cams to be used on our productions and after work adventures.

These tiny POV (Point of View) cameras are water and shockproof and come with an extensive mount system that allows us to put them in precarious circumstances and come away with some unique perspectives. So far we have used the cameras with mountain biking, whitewater kayaking and rafting, zip lines, and even a helicopter production.

This Online Video Isn’t Reality TV, It’s Content Strategy

Monday, November 23rd, 2009 by Reid Williams

If you watch the video in today’s post, you could very well end up A) nodding your head along with everything Carly and Jay have to say, and B) itching for an outdoor adventure vacation of your own.

If that’s the case, too, I’m willing to bet you’re a lot like Carly and Jay, demographically speaking. And that’s no accident or coincidence. We’re counting on it.

See, with online video, it’s not enough to just shoot, edit and upload, then cross your fingers and hope you get viewers and, as a result, customers. To make sure your time and resources are well spent in producing online video, it should be done under the guidance of an informed content strategy. Here’s what I mean.

Join Us For A Webinar

Monday, November 9th, 2009 by Reid Williams

How can West Virginia companies use social media to reach more customers? Can social media help Mountain State enterprises achieve their business objectives? Is all this Facebook-and-Twitter hubbub all that it’s cracked up to be?

If you’ve asked these questions of yourself or your marketing director, then we just might have some answers for you.

We’d like to cordially invite you to a Mountain State Marketers webinar, from noon to 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 16. This webinar will feature Beth Gill, marketing director for ACE Adventure Resort, and Mike Pinkerton of the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System — two of West Virginia’s largest outdoor enterprises. Both will speak and answer questions about how they have used social media as part of their marketing strategy.

We’ve got about half the seats left, as there is a good bit of interest in this topic. If you have questions or would like more information on the webinar, email jeff@mythologymarketing.com or brandon@weldtheweb.com.

Thanks, and look forward to meeting everyone there.

Why You Need 3C In A 3G World

At the risk of being accused of creating unnecessary acronyms in a business environment already asphyxiatingly full of them, this is my plea for you to think about 3C marketing.

No big secret here: I’m talking about Continuous, Coordinated Contact.

What I’m getting at is the importance of reaching out to your organization’s audience in many ways - or even better put, being well represented in all the places your audience might reach out to you — and making sure that there is consistency across all those touch points.

Your prospects (and your competition) will definitely notice if you haven’t planned for that consistency, if there’s a gap in your outreach. More than ever, shoppers are comparing your messages and offerings across multiple channels, and if they find a difference — or don’t find anything at all — you might lose them.

What would happen at your website tomorrow if your organization appeared on television tonight? (more…)

Is There A Better Way To Cool Off?

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009 by Reid Williams

It’s 4 p.m. as we write this, and if the sunny summer afternoon is calling you outside — like it is us — this glimpse of Fourth of July fun should be the last straw in sending you out to play.

We thought we’d throw this video up on the blog and thank our client, ACE Adventure Resort, for making digital marketing work so fun. On Independence Day, the folks at ACE held a fun contest for their swimming guests and handed out gift certificates to some pretty excited kids. The best part was the crowd that gathered and helped the judges out by voting with cheers and applause for their favorite competitors.

Who wants to join us on the Blob?

Which Employee Is Your Undiscovered Star?

Friday, May 15th, 2009 by Reid Williams

ACE Blogger Scott Perdue

He’s going on 40 years old. He’ll tell you he’s the least athletic person around. He answers the phone all day at work, taking reservations.

But Scott P. is quickly becoming the rising star at his company.

It’s because he’s a blogger.

Scott works for ACE Adventure Resort, West Virginia’s largest outfitter. Each year, the company takes tens of thousands of people whitewater rafting, rock climbing, ATVing, fishing and other tours with all sorts of outdoor activities.

ACE has a blog team.

WELD trained 10 of their employees, from diverse departments, to contribute and publish regularly on the blog we built for ACE’s website.

You’d expect the raft guides — known for their colorful personalities, adventurous lives and gift for gab — to be highly successful bloggers.

But Scott is a stand-out, not because his stories make people laugh (and they do), but because he converts them into customers. (more…)
