We Built A New Hub For Handmade Art

Monday, October 26th, 2009 by Reid Williams

After several weeks of intense programming and development, we’re excited to have launched a redesigned website for MountainMade.

The site is still in, oh, alpha-and-a-half mode, soon to be beta, if you will, but everything that you used to be able to do on MountainMade’s website can still be done. There’s plenty of new content, too.

But there’s even more exciting developments to come.

Spilman: Making It Easier To Recruit Attorneys

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009 by Reid Williams

Here’s some of our recent client work from the video department, and if it wasn’t so fun making videos, then this one would have me thinking about going to law school and becoming an attorney.

Spilman, Thomas and Battle is a regional law firm headquartered in Charleston, with over 100 attorneys practicing nearly every specialty of law. Another amazing number: The firm has existed since 1864. We’ve done web work for the firm in the past and they recently brought us on to reinvigorate their recruiting program.

Like all our clients, we’re working to turn Spilman into a publishing machine, attracting new attorneys or prospective clients through the leadership they exhibit in person or in the intellectual content they produce showcasing their innovation and achievements. We’re explaining that the right kind of content and leadership will magnetize the curious when they come looking for you. (more…)

When it comes to captivating our fellow hairless monkeys, there’s really no substitute for an old-fashioned story. If I can paint a picture that bursts from the beginning and raises the stakes throughout the enthralling middle, you’ll be on the edge of your seat and rooting for the characters when it comes time for the ending.

And I’m not just talking about Stephen King or J.K. Rowling here.

I’m talking about your website. (more…)

You Can’t Teach An Old Dog To Stop Interrupting You

Get ready to get annoyed: Some of the premier publishers on the web are about to start meddling with your Internet experience by inserting advertisements between you and the content you just mouse-clicked to see.

Just when you thought they’d figured out that that sort of interruption is a real turn-off for us consumers, these “old dog” publishers have the bright idea to make our web viewing more like TV viewing.

According to MediaWeek (and numerous other sources echoing the same press release), The Wall Street Journal, Reuters and other “top-tier” sites will roll video ads for 10 seconds when you arrive at these sites. The ad will then retreat into a banner if you click it away. If not, it will run for 30 seconds. (more…)

Which Employee Is Your Undiscovered Star?

Friday, May 15th, 2009 by Reid Williams

ACE Blogger Scott Perdue

He’s going on 40 years old. He’ll tell you he’s the least athletic person around. He answers the phone all day at work, taking reservations.

But Scott P. is quickly becoming the rising star at his company.

It’s because he’s a blogger.

Scott works for ACE Adventure Resort, West Virginia’s largest outfitter. Each year, the company takes tens of thousands of people whitewater rafting, rock climbing, ATVing, fishing and other tours with all sorts of outdoor activities.

ACE has a blog team.

WELD trained 10 of their employees, from diverse departments, to contribute and publish regularly on the blog we built for ACE’s website.

You’d expect the raft guides — known for their colorful personalities, adventurous lives and gift for gab — to be highly successful bloggers.

But Scott is a stand-out, not because his stories make people laugh (and they do), but because he converts them into customers. (more…)

Does Your Website Sit Still?

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009 by Reid Williams

WELD Web Designs

The website is the cornerstone, the foundation of your business’s web presence. But that doesn’t mean it should just sit there. If it’s not active, it’s not working.

Even 3 years ago, you might have gotten away with an electronic brochure of a website.

Web surfers didn’t expect much more.

Your website was a digital version of the company prospectus, with an assortment of sales brochures woven in the pages.

The only call to action possible was to list an email address and phone number and hope prospects used them to contact you.

In today’s Internet, your business website is not only capable of doing so much more, it has to do it to win customers. (more…)
