Top 3 Reasons Digital Marketing Rocks

Thursday, April 1st, 2010 by Mariah Hibarger

Mariah Hibarger - WELD Account Executive

What job allows you to Facebook at work, write blogs, produce videos, study Web analytics, optimize Web sites and get to know lots of incredible people all at once? Working for WELD, I get to do all of that and more! Here are my top three favorite things about working for WELD in this new digital world:

1. Variety - Every day brings with it new challenges. I do get bored easily, so WELD’s fast-paced environment suits me just fine. In adventure activities such as whitewater rafting and downhill mountain biking, you have to react to the rapidly changing environment around you; the same thing is true of my job. Digital marketing is as dynamic and fast paced as any other profession in today’s job market. What I’m doing at any given moment is always related to other processes and factors, and daily and even hourly changes switch things up and keep me on my toes.

The Secret Mission Of WELD (And Why You Should Enlist)

Friday, August 28th, 2009 by Reid Williams

I’ve been badgering the guy in the office down the hall to start writing blog posts. If anyone is reading my posts here, I figure, they’ll really get interested in what he has to say.

Mostly because, well, he’s trying to save the world.

Brandon Holmes, B-rad, Brando, @BrandoNRG (if you follow folks on Twitter) - he’s actually the person who convinced me to hop off a globe-trotting lifestyle train and give West Virginia a try.

His undying belief that entrepreneurs can reshape the social and economic fabric of our world for the better probably sold me more than anything. It’s pretty inspiring.

So you know, there are people who will start a business just to teach people to save lives. And there are people whose idea of business development is pursuing non-profit and community clients trying to fix healthcare, or bring jobs to the state, or improve education.

Have you ever met anyone who truly believes that a rising tide floats all boats? (more…)

Get Outside, and Go Ride Your Bike

Team WELD-NRB Biking

Part of what we call the WELDlife is balancing your quality time in and out of the office. Put another way, one of the reasons we choose to live here in the New River Gorge of West Virginia is because we play as hard as we work.

It won’t surprise you, then, to learn how proud we are of Team WELD-NRB.

Team WELD-NRB is a grassroots cycling team. The idea is pretty simple: WELDers and the staff at New River Bike and Tour Company rounded up riders young and old to represent our area in mountain biking and road races around the Mountain State.

The team hopes to raise awareness of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle that includes outdoor activities, not to mention how West Virginia provides unbelievable terrain for those who love travel-by-pedal-power.

At WELD, we want the world to be a healthier, happier place. We honestly believe our work can help accomplish that goal, and it’s important for us to walk the talk when we’re outside the workplace.

So we bike.

If you’re into cycling, the team’s website also includes gear reviews of all the stuff they’re trying out. (And it works for some of them — we’ve already had a first-place finish!)

Does your office have an extracurricular club? How do you explore your community after you punch out for the day?

Are you following WELD on Twitter?

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009 by Reid Williams

Maybe the more appropriate question is, “Are you on Twitter yourself?”

Don’t stress too much if you’re not; there are only about 8 million people currently using it. And that’s only because Oprah and Ashton Kutcher talked about it this month and a million people joined up as a result.

Twitter is a micro-blogging platform. It allows you to post updates — limited to 140 characters or less — on what you’re doing, what you’re reading, what you’re thinking, whatever. People “follow” you if they think you’re interesting. And you can follow people that you find interesting.

Here are some WELDers you might find “tweeting.” Click the link to visit their Twitter page:

  • @WELDlife — Founder and Chief Operating Officer George Rogers
  • @BrandoNRG — Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer Brandon Holmes
  • @KD_WELD — Video Manager Keith Doherty
  • @jbeezer — Executive Administrator Jenny Becksted
  • @MattSmink — This WELDer extraordinaire does it all.

Got more questions about Twitter or other social media? Have you explored how platforms like it can expand your marketing reach and help you better connect with customers? What’s stopping you?
