THE WELDERS

Bright minds, disciplined personalities, and bodies that have seen a fair share of bruising.

It’s not exactly a recipe anyone wrote, but it does describe the gang that has rallied around the vision and mission that has become WELD. These folks see a big wide world that everyone should experience in thrilling fashion, and they know how to tell stories that get you to want to come along.

I’ve always felt the best when I can feel the wind and see the sky. I suspect most folks do. Everyday, I’m excited and thankful that I get work with great companies that are passionate about helping others explore wild places and the sense of adventure that’s in us all.

My perfect day

Seeing a new place and finding a great line.

My favorite recent work project

In just over a week, our video crew acquired original footage from 10 locations in 4 states and produced a clip that captures the emotion of the Yakima brand. Cheers to everyone involved!

After attending the University of Colorado Boulder and UNC Chapel Hill, Brandon started his first business: Adventure Medicine International. That experience was all it took to build the "adventure" side of the equation for Brando.  The marketing side, the creative tell-a-story side, actually started with some kettle corn, a ski town, and a captive audience (long story).  There’s been a passionate romance ever since. He co-founded WELD to serve companies that cultivate the active, outdoor lifestyle.

My perfect day

Meditation session, yoga, eggs over-easy, and a powder day with a side of productive work.

Ironically, after earning a BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in painting, it seemed more stable to pursue a career in outdoor recreation than as an artist. I’m glad I did. After five years of working as a climbing guide, kayak instructor and video boater, it was time to try out a climate-controlled life. I found myself on the doorstep of the four-man company that would become WELD to work as a graphic designer.  It’s funny how life turns full circle.

My perfect day

Be it on an evening solo whitewater run, running it out on the third pitch, or a quiet day from dusk till dawn in my tree stand bow hunting, I crave the moments of quiet and solitude in nature. Add boiled peanuts and a cold dark beer to the day? That would be alright.

My favorite recent work project

I had fun designing a series of promotional items for the The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve. The kids seemed to really dig them.

After 15 years in the whitewater industry, I realized my favorite part of the week was writing the company newsletter.  And because I happened to have a writing degree to officially fall back on, a career in web writing was born.  I enjoy long walks on the beach and thunderstorms.

My perfect day

Snowboarding bottomless powder. No, wait, surfing glassy waves. No, wait, sledding with the kiddos. No, wait, ...

One of our whitewater clients has really focused on changing their voice as we're building their new site. When other people ask me to put words in their mouths, it makes me happy.

My perfect day

The pots box and cooler are nestled snuggly into the oar frame, the hoopie-only (no cam straps, I'm a purist) rigging is a masterful balance of form and function, bellies are full, breakfast is cleaned up, the groover is broken down, my hands grip the oars, and I shove off as the sun crests the canyon wall. Just me and the river following a path of least resistance.

For as long as I can remember I have always loved the river.  It started out with a fascination for surfing, kayaking and windsurfing. Today I am all about sailing and you'll find me on the river in my sloop every chance I get. As a member of the WELD team I get the opportunity to develop websites for clients that understand the thrill of extreme sports.

My perfect day

Heading out to the sea on a windy day to experience the thrill of the open water, while knowing that my wife will be awaiting me with a nice dinner.

My favorite recent work project

I really enjoyed being able to help out with the development of the weldtheweb.com website. It is always exciting to be surrounded by the talented and fun people of the WELD team, but working on the WELD site was an extra blast.

Any and all projects we have produced for OARS.  It's all about getting to spend quality time with the rest of the WELD video crew in remote, majestic environments.  Disconnecting and unplugging from the world, while at the same time capturing the moments where people reconnect with nature and the serenity of the great outdoors!

My perfect day

So much to choose from. Dare I say powder day riding the trees? Maybe a freshly cut superpipe. If the river's big, we'll surf, but I'm just as happy creeking.

My favorite recent work project

It has to be the Adventures In Service projects we've done for the Boy Scouts of America. I live for seeing people have as much fun as I do.

Yearly rafting trips in West Virginia as a child led me to start kayaking as a teenager. Since then I’ve spent the better part of the last decade kayaking by myself or with good friends throughout the States and South America, all the while calling West Virginia home.

My perfect day

Sleep in. Eat local bacon & cheesy grits. Climb with my friends 'til dark. Eat homemade lasagna and drink cheap spanish wine. Curl up with Calico Kitty and my man, Erik. Think about doing it again the next day.
