After attending the University of Colorado Boulder and UNC Chapel Hill, Brandon started his first business: Adventure Medicine International. That experience was all it took to build the "adventure" side of the equation for Brando.  The marketing side, the creative tell-a-story side, actually started with some kettle corn, a ski town, and a captive audience (long story).  There’s been a passionate romance ever since. He co-founded WELD to serve companies that cultivate the active, outdoor lifestyle.

I routinely seek, find and eat up happiness. I am passionate about finding balance and comfort in my daily routine.

Ironically, after earning a BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in painting, it seemed more stable to pursue a career in outdoor recreation than as an artist. I’m glad I did. After five years of working as a climbing guide, kayak instructor and video boater, it was time to try out a climate-controlled life. I found myself on the doorstep of the four-man company that would become WELD to work as a graphic designer.  It’s funny how life turns full circle.

My perfect day

Be it on an evening solo whitewater run, running it out on the third pitch, or a quiet day from dusk till dawn in my tree stand bow hunting, I crave the moments of quiet and solitude in nature. Add boiled peanuts and a cold dark beer to the day? That would be alright.

I had fun designing a series of promotional items for the The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve. The kids seemed to really dig them.

My desire to create and design overflows into two areas — woodworking and landscaping. I’m as proud of a tight mortise and tenon as I am fascinated by seasonal change in the garden.

After 15 years in the whitewater industry, I realized my favorite part of the week was writing the company newsletter.  And because I happened to have a writing degree to officially fall back on, a career in web writing was born.  I enjoy long walks on the beach and thunderstorms.

The pots box and cooler are nestled snuggly into the oar frame, the hoopie-only (no cam straps, I'm a purist) rigging is a masterful balance of form and function, bellies are full, breakfast is cleaned up, the groover is broken down, my hands grip the oars, and I shove off as the sun crests the canyon wall. Just me and the river following a path of least resistance.

My best friend and partner; spending time with good friends and family on the crag, paddling a river, or laughing till our sides hurt; the cats and dog; all four of my second hand sewing machines; finding good bargains; looking at decadent recipes I'll never make; picking food out of the backyard garden; anything that drives the adrenaline up and lets me know that yes, I'm still alive and kicking.

For as long as I can remember I have always loved the river.  It started out with a fascination for surfing, kayaking and windsurfing. Today I am all about sailing and you'll find me on the river in my sloop every chance I get. As a member of the WELD team I get the opportunity to develop websites for clients that understand the thrill of extreme sports.

Heading out to the sea on a windy day to experience the thrill of the open water, while knowing that my wife will be awaiting me with a nice dinner.

I really enjoyed being able to help out with the development of the weldtheweb.com website. It is always exciting to be surrounded by the talented and fun people of the WELD team, but working on the WELD site was an extra blast.

I am passionate about food and drink. Preparing a nice dinner with a bottle of wine together with my wife gives me a lot of satisfaction.

Somewhere between thinking I'd be a magazine journalist and managing environmental projects, I found West Virginia and all the good stuff that comes with that. I prefer my outdoor sports laid back and fun and enjoy sharing the experience with my family.

Up after the sun. Coffee in my mug and an hour or two to work on my novel. A ride on the local trails or a hike and picnic with my family. Cap off the day with some reading or a little music after my daughter's in bed.

My work is play! I love spending my time in the outdoors exploring with my dog and my friends. There's always an adventure in the NRG. When not out and about I really enjoy working on and fixing things up. A natural born tinkerer if you will, thankful for my old rusty truck and the never ending amount of maintenance it requires.

Yearly rafting trips in West Virginia as a child led me to start kayaking as a teenager. Since then I’ve spent the better part of the last decade kayaking by myself or with good friends throughout the States and South America, all the while calling West Virginia home.

I knew from an early age that I wanted to be an artist. I found out when I was 26 that I really wanted to be a rock climber too. So, now I incorporate both into my life as often as possible. Anytime I can merge the 2, I’m even more excited.

Sleep in. Eat local bacon & cheesy grits. Climb with my friends 'til dark. Eat homemade lasagna and drink cheap spanish wine. Curl up with Calico Kitty and my man, Erik. Think about doing it again the next day.
